Yarn of the Antipodes

Welcome to the Yarn of the Antipodes club!

As part of this club, subscribers were sent three parcels, in March, May and July 2022. The inspiration was Australian flowers.

Each parcel contained:

  • One 100g skein of fingering weight yarn in a merino/nylon blend, dyed by an Australian indie dyer.
  • One (or two) A6 size printed card of the club inspiration photo(s).
  • A surprise! No hints, except that everything was hand made in Australia.

Here’s the yarn from the May parcels of Yarn of the Antipodes. It’s named Scaevola, after the fan flower (also pictured) which grows here in Canberra, and which the fabulous dyer @trichromatyarns used as her inspiration for the colourway. There’s something so satisfying about handmade soaps. Especially ones like this that smell so good!This lemon myrtle and wattle seed soap from @byannesoaps was part of the May Yarn of the Antipodes parcels. There’s a cupboard in my house where I was storing the soap that smells just amazing now, hopefully the smell will hang around for a while, even though most of the soaps have now been posted off. In case you hadn’t figured it out already, I’m a bit of a fan of @little.paintthings. Here’s the card she designed for the May Yarn of the Antipodes parcels. My friends, it’s been a full on couple of months. Work was busy, there was the usual round of illnesses, then a bunch of family stuff. All this to say, I’m sorry I haven’t posted properly about the May parcels and here we are, nearly in July! Let me rectify this slackness now. Almost everyone has got their May parcels now, so I think it’s safe to post about it without spoiling too many surprises. A very glamorous shot of some of the May Yarn of the Antipodes parcels - there’s been a bit of a delay because my printer is broken, but these should be on their way to the post office soon. I’ll be packing up the May parcels for Yarn of the Antipodes soon. I won’t be sharing those contents just yet, so here’s a little video of what was in the March parcel. Here are two examples of how the @skipropeyarnco yarn from the March club works up. On the left is the start of a sock, where you can see how the micro stripes look, and in case socks aren’t your thing on the right is a swatch in linen stitch.
