Cast on method

You can use whichever cast on method you prefer. This is my favourite method, using a crochet hook:

  • Make a slip knot and put in on the crochet hook
  • Position the needle behind the crochet hook
  • Bring the yarn around the back of the needle and around to the left side of the hook
  • Use the hook to pull the yarn through the loop on the crochet hook
  • Repeat the previous two steps until you have one stitch less than the number required
  • Pass the stitch on the crochet hook to the needle

An increase worked into a left slanting decrease, so that the total number of stitches does not change:

  • Slip 1 stitch (along with its yarn over) knitwise
  • brk the next two stitches together (do not drop the sts off the left needle), yarn over, brk, all into the same stitches (now drop the sts off the left needle)
  • Pass the slipped stitch (along with its yarn over) over the set of three stitches just worked
